Logging and Tracing


This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to manage log and trace information on a Names Server. Tracing is a feature that allows you to obtain more information about the internal operations of a Names Server than is provided in a log file.

Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

Log Directory

To specify the directory to which log files will be written, enter any valid directory name in the Log Directory field provided.

Log File

To specify the name of the log file, enter any valid file name in the Log File field provided. Note that the file name extension for this file is always ".log".

Trace Level

To enable tracing, use the Trace level pull-down menu to select any of the following trace levels:

Tracing is set to Off (No trace output) by default.

Trace Directory

To specify the directory to which trace files will be written, enter any valid directory name in the Trace Directory field provided.

Trace File

To specify the name of the trace file to which trace information will be written, enter any valid filename in the Trace File field provided.

Apply

When you are satisfied with the entries that you have made, click on the Apply button.

Revert

Click on the Revert button to restore the original settings.
